The respiratory virus season was rough on many people. Since SARS-Cov-2 emerged (i.e. was created & released), I have noticed that my patients worry more when they get symptoms of a cold or a flu-like illness. Admittedly, since the roll out of the COVID shots, I’ve noticed that many “vaccinated” people are getting sicker with these illnesses than they used to. I’m not going to make any assumptions that the shots caused this, but we do have some possible mechanisms in the literature suggesting that the new mRNA shots damage our God given immune systems. This respiratory virus season was more stressful than most, for many reasons. My 89 year old father contracted a virus and developed subsequent pneumonia.
Understandably, many people have lost trust in medical professionals and public health “experts” since 2020. I guess I did not realize the extent to which I had lost trust.
When I fractured my pelvis in rural WV in 2021, there was no way I was going to an ER. I knew I would be harassed for my unvaccinated status and forced to wear a useless mask. I also knew my injury would not require an intervention. Thankfully, I was correct and eventually healed completely. I endured some pain the night of the injury, which was unpleasant but preferable to psychological manipulation and judgement that I feared I would face at the ER.
When dad got sick, and I found him to be hypoxic, I knew I had to do everything possible to keep him out of the hospital. Unfortunately, he did receive the mRNA injections in 2021 (on my advice, which I regret), but he never got any boosters. I knew if I sent him to his doctor, who works for a hospital system, they would test him for everything and likely admit him…while also making him wear a mask while hypoxic and hard of hearing (elder abuse).
So, I consulted with some medical colleagues and treated him at home with several medications, nebulizer treatments and oxygen. Given his age, it has been a long recovery for him. After 11 days, I was feeling very stressed and unsure, because it’s hard to care for a loved one as a doctor. We don’t want our loved ones to be sick, so my fear is always that I will miss something. So, I reluctantly took him for a chest x ray and to see his assigned physician. It was as disappointing as I expected. We were forced to wear flimsy paper masks, and they immediately suggested testing dad for flu and covid. Why? After 11 days, how would that change the management? Perhaps they would admit my dad, put him on a ventilator and give him remdesivir? We declined the tests.
Through this experience, I thought of other families who don’t have access to a medical professional who knows the truth. Knowing the truth about our medical system and how we were manipulated by our government during this pandemic is a catch 22. It’s a curse when we awake doctors and nurses feel like we are living in a clown world, often enduring attack by our colleagues who are “on narrative.” But, this experience helping my dad (& my mom…she wasn’t quite as sick, thank God) reminded me that it is a blessing to be able to help the people I love during these uncertain times.
I’m reminded to cherish the time I have with my parents and to thank God for how healthy and vibrant they are. I’m reminded to be present for family and friends…that other hobbies and distractions can wait. We don’t know how long we will have our loved ones.
Molly, I stopped trusting the healthcare system as I arrived in Ky. Obamacare plus HMOS destroyed many Dr./ patient relationships. I was working for a group in northern VA when HMOS came in plus Kaiser Permamente where you really didn’t have a choice of Dr. After retirement, many of the private practice Drs were bought out by hospital groups which changed the time that was allotted to each patient. I witnessed three family members who were treated badly and died. Covid changed everything for the worse. You couldn’t get an appt or referral without a lot of red tape (Medicare). I personally had a serious situation which if you had not intervened, I wouldn’t have been seen for 3 months. I had a kidney stone recently and had a terrible experience with a bill over $8000. I wanted to explain a little of why we are so grateful and thankful for your love, expertise, and kindness not just for family but your patients. Keep doing what you know is right and don’t give into the untruths that the CDC and other agencies are promoting. We love you and are very proud of the Dr., daughter, wife, sibling and mother you are.
Ever since the nursing home OD'd my 90 yr old father on dilantin (he was in a fetal position and almost dead, they were not monitoring the blood levels of the med in his blood) I won't go to a doctor unless it's critical. I worked (not at home) thruout C and never wore a mask, anywhere. When I got sick in Sept of 22 I stayed home and laid on the couch till I was better. About a week. I really don't trust Docs after all this!!
